Lamont Hoyer, 54, has been identified by the police as the driver killed in a chain-reaction crash involving a pick-up truck and two other vehicles.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were called to Indian Head Highway near Farmington Drive in Accokeek to investigate a reported crash.

Investigators say that a pick-up truck driver was attempting to make a left turn onto Farmington Road when he struck Hoyer, who was driving south on the highway.

Hoyer was struck, and the pick-up collided into a third vehicle that was traveling in the area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck and two passengers in Hoyer's vehicle were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The third driver was uninjured in the crash, which led to an hours-long closure of Indian Head Highway, which reopened at around 6 a.m. on Friday morning.

Anyone with additional information regarding the crash has been asked to contact the department by calling (301) 731-4422.
